Despite the dark and dreary rain clouds and some gusty winds at this years 17th Annual Athens Artsfest, thousands of people again attended the event held on the grounds of the Harlan Rowe Middle School in Athens, Pa. on April 30 and May 1, 2016. The two day festival, in its 17th year, featured over 150 juried artists as well as an amazing food court along with student activities, community organizations events and a kids zone. Along with the talented juried artists, great food vendors and activities which included face painting, bouncy houses, goldfish racing and pottery throwing, the event also featured live music on two separate stages. Sunday’s big attraction was the country band Upstate featuring American Idol finalist Aaron Kelly. Other acts who performed over the two day festival were the Penn-York Highlanders, MR-2 and up and coming local country recording artists Tim Wood and Jake Parshall.
Artsfest began in 1999 as a small juried show following a couple years that retired Athens art teacher, Dave Webster began a day-long pottery “throw-a-thon” in 1996.
I am honored to have had the privilege to be one of the first juried artists featured at the original Artsfest in 1999 with my pen and ink illustrations. I was a regular for the first four years of Artsfest until 2003 when my youngest daughter was born. It was right around that time I began dabbling in photography. Low and behold, I again returned to my roots and attended the 2014 Artsfest as a juried photography exhibitor featuring my “Ruinscape” photo-art focused on the abandoned and decayed.
Last year at the 2015 Artsfest I was both honored and humbled to win “Best in Category” for photography which lit a fire to get out and create more images featuring photo/digital art and landscape prints.
2016 put yet another fantastic year in the books. I was happy to have added new prints and different sizes and pricing options for photography and art lovers alike. Thanks to all that came out to Athens Artsfest 2016 and stopping by my booth.. I enjoyed meeting everyone, chatting with awesome people and sharing my work with the thousands in attendance..
